ADHA names two hygienists as recipients of Excellence in Dental Hygiene Award

Mark Hartley

June 25, 2001

The 2001 ADHA Warner Lambert Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene was awarded to Patricia Doyle, RDH, of Seattle, Wash., and Virginia Woodward, RDH, of Louisville, Ky.

Doyle's greatest impact in oral health over the course of her 36-year career has been in the mental health community. Her involvement ranges from providing extensive direct clinical care to mental health patients on a volunteer basis to educating mental health case managers about the importance of maintaining optimal oral health.

Throughout her 29-year career in dental hygiene and politics, Woodward strived to initiate change at the legislative level. Some of her political objectives have included women's health, educational standards, pay equity, and equal access to health care. She has campaigned in previous years for Kentucky state senate and the U.S. Congress, and is expected to run for the state senate in 2002.
