I still remember realizing that being a dental hygienist was about so much more than scaling teeth. It was about looking at the whole picture, asking questions, recognizing what the patient needed, and building the confidence to make clinical decisions. Years later, that same idea came back to me during our conversations with JoAnn Gurenlian this month. We talked about standards, assessment, diagnosis, documentation, and professional accountability—but underneath all of it was one important question: Are we using our knowledge and judgment to provide the best care we can?
That feels especially meaningful during National Dental Hygiene Month. So, fellow hygienists, we want to hear from you! How have you been recognized or celebrated for being a dental hygienist? Email us your story and let’s celebrate dental hygienists together. Then tune in to this month’s episodes and stay with us for the conversations coming next.
