The new periodontal probe "Diamond Probe®/Perio 2000® System," now available in the United States through Sullivan-Schein Dental, is an innovative periodontal probe with a sulfide microsensor on the tip. Its intended use is to detect the presence of sulfides in the periodontal pocket as an indicator of gram-negative bacterial activity, evaluate probing depths and assess bleeding upon probing. Gram-negative bacteria are the anaerobes most closely associated with periodontal disease.
