Dear RDH:
What a great article about returning to the workforce in the April 1996 issue. Many dental hygienists who have taken time out for a period in their career find returning to the profession a difficult task. Your article addressing reasons dental hygienists cite for leaving and the incentives to look again is very helpful.
One of the obstacles, availability of re-entry programs, has been addressed by the continuing dental education faculty here at the University of Minnesota, who designed a new re-entry program in 1995 to aid dental hygienists wishing to return to practice.
The course, which contains new disease concepts, products, and techniques, allows dental hygienists to practice up on skills before returning to dental practice and is advertised in RDH yearly under "University of Minnesota Continuing Education."
