Leading the way
The workhorses behind RDH editorial during the 1980s were Irene Woodall, RDH, and Regina Dreyer-Thomas, RDH. The former was the magazine’s senior editor until overcome by a debilitating illness in early 1993.

At left, RDH sold shirts for a few years. For $16, you had your choice of lavender, pink, white, yellow, or blue.

One of the first references to salary information was given by Regina Dreyer-Thomas as she offered insight on working for the federal government in the March/April 1983 issue. Presumably, salaries have gotten better. At right, a creative writer pens a poem for the May/June 1983 issue about the dental hygiene clinic at Wichita State University, one of the few poems ever published in RDH. Below, Cynthia Enterman, RDH, interviewed Dr. Esther Wilkins for the January/February 1984 issue. A lower left, the first byline from who would turn out to be one of the most prolific feature writers for RDH.
Covers
The May/June 1983 cover featured the first African-American model, and the September/October 1984 cover was the first to not use a human model, using instead a creative map of California to announce an article about licensing policies in the state.
