A Tale of Two Hygienists announces new co-hosts
A Tale of Two Hygienists is entering a new chapter with the appointment of Jessica Atkinson, MEd, BSDH, RDH, FADHA, and David Torres, CRDH, as its new co-hosts. They succeed longtime host Andrew Johnston, RDH, who has guided the podcast for more than a decade.
Atkinson is an associate professor of dental hygiene at Utah Tech University and CEO of Hygiene Edgeucators, a continuing education platform supporting dental hygiene educators and clinicians through evidence-based learning and professional development. Her background spans clinical practice, education, leadership, and entrepreneurship, and she is widely recognized for advancing professional growth through thoughtful dialogue and collaboration.
"Co-hosting A Tale of Two Hygienists is an exciting opportunity to continue meaningful conversations that support and elevate our profession," Atkinson said. "This podcast has long been a trusted space for learning and connection, and I'm honored to be part of its next chapter."
David Torres brings more than a decade of clinical experience in dental hygiene, with a focus on patient education, preventive care, and the integration of modern dental technologies. Known for his passion for teaching, campus recruiting, and coaching, Torres is a trusted voice within the profession, dedicated to helping dental professionals improve workflows, efficiency, and long-term success.
"Being chosen to co-host A Tale of Two Hygienists is truly an honor," Torres said. "Stepping into this role after Andrew Johnston is incredibly humbling. Andrew helped build something meaningful, impactful, and trusted within the dental hygiene community. I have nothing but respect for the foundation he created, and I'm committed to honoring that legacy while continuing to grow the conversation."
Torres added, "Co-hosting alongside Jessica Atkinson is an exciting opportunity. Her passion, leadership, and dedication to the profession make this experience both inspiring and motivating. I'm looking forward to learning, collaborating, and bringing valuable conversations to our audience together."
Reflecting on the transition, Johnston emphasized that the podcast was always meant to evolve.
"I will always hold A Tale of Two Hygienists fondly in my heart," Johnston said. "For more than 10 years, we had conversations that the dental community really rallied around, and it's something I'm incredibly proud of. But it was important to me that the platform always be bigger than any individual. I knew this day would come, when we could pass the show on to clinicians like David and Jessica."
Johnston continued, "Their vision for the next chapter is fun, new, and different while still feeling familiar. To all of the past guests, listeners, and commercial supporters-thank you. You are the reason the show was such a success. Congratulations to the new hosts. I can't wait to hear what's next."
Johnston will now serve as Editor in Chief for DentistryIQ, where he remains focused on editorial strategy, audience engagement, and brand growth.
With Atkinson and Torres at the helm, A Tale of Two Hygienists will continue its mission of fostering candid, practical, and relevant conversations-supporting dental hygienists and oral health professionals at every stage of their careers.
