Christine Shetrone, RDH, works for Sealants for Smiles, a nonprofit program developed to provide dental services to low income elementary schools in Utah.

“These schools are in need of dental care,” she said. “We work with a team of hygienists and have portable equipment and travel to these schools. We visit about two schools a week, where we see second graders and sixth graders. We evaluate the child's dental needs, provide sealants and education, and refer them to dentists where appropriate. It's a fairly new program that has done really well and is growing at an amazing rate.”

As indicated in the photography, Christine practices yoga. She said, “Monotony and routine is a killer to me. I love yoga and have found that things just make more sense in my life when I practice it. It puts things in perspective and helps me take a step back and evaluate what is important. It's calming, clarifying, and soothing.”

She graduated from a Colorado dental hygiene school in 2004. A native of Utah, she has also lived in Washington, Montana, and Indiana. While in Colorado, she took her interest in cycling to a competitve level.

“I haven't competed for a few years but used to ride with an all-girls team in Colorado. I competed in criteriums, road races, and time trials,” Christine said. “I still ride my road and mountain bike all the time and just got a chariot trailer so I can take my son on rides with me.”
