General session speaker — Ann Eshenaur Spolarich, RDH, PhD, presents a course titled, “New Evidence on Prevention of Oral Diseases and the Link with Systemic Disorders.” Spolarich, a clinical associate professor at the University of Southern California Dental School, has participated in research in a variety of educational settings, including Johns Hopkins Hospital. A recipient of the 1997 Warner Lambert/ADHA Award for excellence in dental hygiene, Spolarich lectures extensively across the United States. Her course at RDH Under One Roof will highlight the latest findings from research about interventions that can successfully reduce oral disease. This knowledge is translated into risk reduction strategies that clinicians can apply in their daily practice to improve the health and well-being of their patients. Tip of the month — Many RDH Under One Roof attendees will likely arrive early or stay after the dental hygiene conference to visit the theme parks with family or friends. However, Disney World does extend an added benefit to those who stay at one of the resorts (including the Dolphin and Swan hotels). Each day, one of the four Disney theme parks opens an hour early or stays open up to three hours later. A “resort ID” and a ticket to the theme park allows UOR attendees to savor the magic of Disney “after work.” Attendees are encouraged to check with the hotels about the schedules for the added hours.
Dining out — RDH Under One Roof veterans know that a benefit of the past two West Coast “UORs” at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas offered an eclectic menu of dining options, all within walking distance inside the Rio. The 2010 UOR offers a similar benefit. The Swan and Dolphin resort offer an excellent steakhouse (Shula’s Steak House), seafood (Todd English’s bluezoo), Italian (IL Mulino New York Trattoria), and sushi (Kimonos). In addition, the resorts are separated by a pedestrian bridge from the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk resort at Disney World features an entertainment district alongside the lagoon known as Crescent Lake that separates the two resorts. The Boardwalk offers the additional dining options of a pub (Big River Grille & Brewing Works), Cat Cora’s Kouzzina, and the Flying Fish Cafe, as well as assorted fast food options that include an ESPN Club. Finally, Swan and Dolphin guests can catch a complimentary shuttle to Downtown Disney to eat at more than a dozen restaurants. All of this decadent dining can be accomplished without driving a car or taking a cab.
