Health-care facilities will have another option for protecting their workers now that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted marketing clearance to the PROTECTIV™ ACUVANCE™ I.V. Safety Catheter, a new, easy-to-use I.V. catheter that reduces the risk of accidental needlesticks.

- The catheter, designed and manufactured by Johnson & Johnson Medical, incorporates an internal needle-blunting system. This provides the health-care worker with an enhanced level of safety, while maintaining the flexibility of use necessary for optimum patient care.

- Data shows that the use of safety-catheter devices can reduce needlesticks by as much as 84 percent.
