Choices for cover models

Sept. 1, 1999
The cover of the June 1999 issue bothers me. At a time when we are struggling to gain professional recognition nationally, one of the best publications we have has, yes, an attractive young lady on the cover. But what is she doing that reflects dental hygiene? Striking a pose in a short skirt and tank top, slowly taking off her shirt, does nothing to inspire me toward my profession.

Dear RDH:

The cover of the June 1999 issue bothers me. At a time when we are struggling to gain professional recognition nationally, one of the best publications we have has, yes, an attractive young lady on the cover. But what is she doing that reflects dental hygiene? Striking a pose in a short skirt and tank top, slowly taking off her shirt, does nothing to inspire me toward my profession.

Remember that doctors read this magazine, as often you see letters from them in Readers` Forum. I have to remind myself RDH is not an official publication of the American Dental Hygienists` Association. It is privately owned, and its editors can do as they wish. If they wish to continue to represent us, let`s make better cover photo choices.
