Are you interested in myofunctional therapy?
Myofunctional therapist Karese Laguerre describes herself like a personal trainer for the face: she works with the muscles below the eyes and above the shoulders. She works to strengthen and engage these mucles, which can lead to better oral and overall health.
She began her career in clinical hygiene, and now has her own practice in myofunctional therapy. She discusses how she moved from one to the other for those who are interested in the area, or who want to start their own business. She explains that this specialty is growing, and how a dental hygienist can do both.
Those who are interested can slowly build into the specialty. BROOMS (bruxism, respiration, orally defensive, open mouth posture, maxillary transverse width, strained mentalis) is a good method to learn to start easing into myofunctional therapy in your clinical practice.
