Dear RDH:
My favorite Web site is the one my husband, Stephen Fine, developed recently. It is www.skincheck.com. This is a very important and informative Web site alerting people to the dangers of melanoma and to its identifying characteristics. It is also a memorial to our 26-year-old son, Daniel, who succumbed to this disease on October 10, 1998, after a two-year, four-month battle with it.
As hygienists, we can make our patients aware of changes in moles in the area of the head and neck which also would stimulate a discussion on skin cancer and hopefully a referral to this Web site, as well as to the patient`s dermatologist. I appreciate your inclusion of this Web site in RDH so that we may reach as many people as possible to help prevent this devastating disease.
