A Dental Conference In Your Bedroom

RDH magazine co-hosts RDH Under One Roof, an annual conference typically staged in Las Vegas, Chicago, and varying locations on the East Coast. On Oct. 19-20, the magazine will co-host another dental conference. The location of RDH Event, though, is your personal computer.

InXpo officials pose for Trade Show Executive magazine. Note the "exhibit hall" behind them. RDH Event will allow RDH readers to attend a virtual trade show in October.

RDH Event is a “virtual trade show” that features many of the same benefits that RDH Under One Roof offers. An exhibit hall lets you chat with vendors about new products. A keynote speaker will get you fired up about your career, and other speakers will present continuing education seminars that help you stay informed and earn CEUs. There’s even a salon where you can relax in a networking environment with other attendees.

The significant difference is that you don’t have to leave the house to attend RDH Event. You merely type in the Web address of www.rdhevent.com to get started.

Despite the ease of “traveling” to RDH Event, attendees are not encouraged to multi-task, as in painting the bedroom or working in the garden while the conference is underway.

Steve Epner, a widely published Internet expert, says, “Plan your time to visit the [virtual trade] show as if you were going to be out of town. Close the door, put the phone on ‘do not disturb,’ and mark your calendar as busy.”

InXpo, the technology company behind RDH Event, positions its services as an adjunct to traditional trade shows. The Chicago-based company has been so successful with this premise that Trade Show Executive magazine awarded InXpo an Innovation Award in its June 2007 issue. The magazine said, “Virtual trade shows have recently found their own niche not as competition to the live event, but rather as an adjunct ... The digital booths allow visitors to use a mouse to ‘kick the tires’ ... InXpo has gone to great lengths to make the virtual shows as life-like as possible.”

General attendance to RDH Event is free, although attendees may have to pay a small fee for some of the CE seminars. RDH will publish the schedule for RDH Event in its September issue, as well as the lineup of speakers and a list of exhibitors.
