Changing her mind about Farran

Dear RDH:

Several months ago, you printed a letter from me regarding my disappointment that you had interviewed and used quotes from Dr. Howard Farran of Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Farran had publicly called hygienists vultures, and I was displeased that RDH should support him.

Since that printing, I attended a Farran seminar and enjoyed his expertise, his irreverent style of delivery, his arrogance (earned). He has been there, done that. I spent $100 of my own money to buy his tapes on hygiene and have enjoyed every minute of them.

I felt, to be fair, that I should write to RDH to say that, though Dr. Farran can be offensive and step on toes in his delivery, he has a lot of very useful ideas for today in dentistry.
