About the cover

At the risk of sounding like a decorating magazine, an explanation about the background items on the cover is required. Terry Mingee is handy with a needle - the sewing kind.

Terry designed the vest he is wearing at right (draped over the bear on the cover). The teddy bear is his design too, based on a model that he found in a toy store, and he has sold several of them. The quilt on the cover is 28 years old, and his grandmother made it from her old clothes.

In the photo at right, a close friend, Carol Zidek-Pal, is wearing a shirt that he designed for her birthday. "I love to quilt and sew and things like that, but I also love to work on my 33-year-old Ford truck. It`s my baby," he says.

Mingee is a dental hygiene contractor at the U.S. Naval Base in Great Lakes, Ill. He resides in nearby Antioch, but he`s traveling too much to guarantee finding him slaving over the Janome sewing machine in his home. Recent trips have landed him in Spain, Sweden, and Jamaica.

He is a 1987 graduate from Parkland College of Dental Hygiene in Champaign, Ill. He can be reached by e-mail at [email protected].
