When was the last time you stepped to the edge, said yes to an opportunity, and invested money or time in yourself? These moments are gifts and often provide valuable lessons, mental rejuvenation, and a new sense of purpose. As dental professionals, we are caregivers who embrace taking care of those around us, sometimes before taking care of ourselves. It is said that if we don’t spend time taking care of ourselves, we will eventually not have the resilience to take care of others. Take a moment to ask yourself, “When was the last time I did something just for me?”

Many of us deal with guilt and the feeling that it’s not proper to think about ourselves first. As an older adult, I can attest that it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself and those who love you. Often, these moments alone are when inspiration sneaks in and triggers an idea that you can act upon. The gift may be as simple as walking alone each morning, taking yourself on an overnight retreat somewhere, or meeting some friends for a weekend getaway.
I was recently invited to attend the Thrive Ergonomic Summit in Colorado Springs. Recovering from neck surgery, I said yes to the opportunity and am most thankful I took some time for myself. Cindy Purdy has created a program that covers ergonomics from prevention to recovery. I shared the weekend with ladies I have known for years and learned I wasn’t floating in my ergonomic recovery boat alone. The program will be hosted again August 4–6, and October 21–23, 2022. If you are interested in learning about your ergonomic health or treatment, this is the place for you. For additional information, visit cindypurdy.com or email [email protected].
This month we recognize the RDH Community Connections (RCC) program. Each member recognized an opportunity to build their presence on social media and invested the time in themselves. You can follow many of them and quickly see their success. They all share a different story, but each saw an opportunity and knew they needed to take that chance. This year we extend an invitation to you. Patterson Dental will be hosting the RDH Glow in the Dark Party at Under One Roof. Wednesday, July 20th from 6:00–8:00 p.m. We will be turning on the black lights, celebrating the RCC members, and opening the 21st RDH Under One Roof / Summer Celebration in Orlando, Florida.
I look forward to meeting new friends and sharing a laugh with old friends at RDH Under One Roof. I hope you embrace the opportunity to invest in yourself.
