1 In January 1999, RDH began a trend of using random dental hygienists for its covers instead of themes or famous hygienists. Shari Feitlowitz (near left) posed for the first one. Laura Tillery and her dog Bandit posed for the March 1999 cover, and part-time flight attendant Jacqueline Perry appeared on the April 2000 cover. The trend continues, although some recent covers featured award winners and other covers have profiled some “celebrities,” primarily in the corporate setting.
Advice from columnists
2 Four new columns were launched in 1999-2000. Glasscoe and Guignon still write their columns, Staff Rx and Comfort Zone, respectively, for RDH on a monthly basis. Hodsdon became the director of RDH eVillage in 2005. Adams eventually stopped writing her column to become a full-time financial planner.
On the Web with 32 teeth
3 Before RDH developed its own Web site at www.rdhmag.com, the magazine briefly collaborated with net32, the dental Web site named for the number of human teeth. Lynne Tatum Little updated RDH readers each month about contests and articles on the Web site.
The first award
4 Before RDH teamed up with Sunstar Butler (Healthy Gums Healthy Life Award of Distinction) and Philips Oral Healthcare (Mentor of the Year), there was the Preventive Practice of the Year. For two years, RDH and the Levin Group selected a dental practice for its exemplary emphasis on preventive dentistry. The South Valley Center of Cosmetic Dentistry in San Jose, Calif., was the first recipient in 2000.
