The joy of recognition

Acknowledgement of a job well done always feels good. As dental hygienists, we are often recognized by our patients for educating them and taking care of their health. Occasionally, our employer might voice appreciation for the contributions we make to the practice. If we’re fortunate, we may even receive recognition from a family member, putting a smile on our face.

This month, we embrace the opportunity to recognize three outstanding dental hygienists who have been selected as Philips Heart to Hands honorees:

  • Anaika L. Forbes, MS, BSDH, RDH, CDA
  • Julie Malone, RDH
  • Carrie Wucinich, RDH

Now in its sixth year, the Philips Heart to Hands Award focuses on recognizing the dedication, passion, and positive change dental hygienists bring to the profession. Each year it’s an honor to share the stories and shine a light on how these individuals contribute to total body wellness of those they serve. This year, Philips and RDH magazine will celebrate the achievements of these individuals on Thursday, July 21st at the Philips Heart to Hands Reception during the RDH Under One Roof Conference.

To learn more about this year’s honorees, be sure to read the piece by Kirsten Brancheau sharing their stories through her personal interviews. Additionally, Karen Thomas brings new awareness to gut health and presents solutions you may share with your patients or use in your personal life. Cindy Purdy shares the first of a two-part series on pain and musculoskeletal disorders, including how to diagnose and initiate treatment. Finally, Anne Guignon provides a comparison of saddle seats so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Along with receiving, there is also a balance of giving. Take the time each day to recognize someone in your life who makes a positive impact. Whether it be a stranger, a colleague, someone in customer service, or a family member, take the time to make someone feel good during these challenging times. Spread smiles.

With happiness,

Jackie
